27-28 avgust kunlari Amerikaning sharqiy shtatlari shiddatli to'fon bilan yuzlashdi. Atlantika okeanidan kelgan "Ayrin" (Irene) to’foni avval Shimoliy Karolina sohillarini urdi. Keyin esa Virjiniya, Merilend, Delaver, Nyu-Jersi va Nyu-York shtatlariga ham yetib bordi. So'ngra Konnektikut, Roud-Ayland va boshqa shimoliy shtatlarga yo'naldi. Sohilbo’yidan millionlab aholi evakuatsiya qilindi. Jamoat transporti ishdan to'xtadi. Mutaxassislarning aytishicha, hajm jihatdan butun Yevropa maydoniga teng bu to'fonning o'rtacha tezligi soatiga 120-140 kilometrni tashkil etgan. Suv toshqinlari kuzatildi. Milionlab aholi elektr tokisiz qoldi. To'fon 20 kishini hayotdan olib ketdi. Milliardlab dolllar zarar keltirdi.
